Band of Horses Return with 'Why Are You OK'

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Mar 25, 2016

It's been a long four years since Band of Horses delivered their last LP, Mirage Rock, but it turns out new music arrives from Ben Bridwell and co. in just a few months. Though an official ETA has yet to be confirmed, the band's Why Are You OK comes out this June.

News of the next Band of Horses record arrived today (March 25), with Bridwell explaining to Entertainment Weekly that he'd been writing the demos for quite some time, often late at night so he could focus on being a father during the day. He'd hinted at starting the songwriting sessions back in 2013, noting at the time that he was hoping the new material would "break some people's hearts."

A tracklisting has yet to arrive, but Why Are You OK apparently begins with a seven-minute cut called "Dull Times."

The recording sessions took place between Stinson Beach, CA, and Woodstock, NY, with Band of Horses tapping Grandaddy's Jason Lytle to produce. Apparently, the experience with Lytle tapped into a different side of Band of Horses than what was heard on their previous albums.

"Not like there was a bad taste in my mouth by any means, I stand behind those records," Bridwell explained to Entertainment Weekly, while adding, "I really felt like [Lytle] could help get my songs to where their potential seemed to be blooming."

Samples from the set have yet to be delivered. In a fortuitous bit of timing, this week mark's the 10th anniversary of Band of Horses' first album, Everything All the Time. You can revisit that set's "Great Salt Lake" down below.
