Progressive rockers the Mars Volta's break up last week is likely still stinging fans, but at least there's some solace via news of a reissue campaign of singer Cedric Bixler Zavala and guitarist Omar Rodriguez Lopez's older band, the reunited At the Drive-In. The early aughts post-punkers have announced that they'll be offering up tweaked-up editions of their 1996 debut Acrobatic Tenement and 2000's Relationship of Command.
The band's own Twenty-First Chapter Records will deliver Acrobatic Tenement March 5 on CD, LP and digitally in the U.S., though Dine Alone will handle the album's release in Canada. As for their breakthrough, Relationship of Command, it'll be delivered on limited color vinyl on Record Store Day (April 20), and will feature the previously released bonus track "Catacombs." Both albums had been reissued by Fearless Records in 2004
"It was interesting to revisit the recordings that bookended the first chapters of our band," guitarist Jim Ward wrote of the upcoming reissues. "The earnest and pure excitement of the beginning and the level of craftsmanship we achieved by Relationship of Command leaves me nothing but proud. I am happy these records have found their way to continue to feel new as people discover music they love and embrace our work."
While the news of the reissues is a welcome one, don't get your hopes up for new material from the band just yet. They had previously quashed rumours of a fourth full-length LP.
In other news, Ward and drummer Tony Hajjar also revealed some upcoming Canadian dates with their other band, Sparta, which should have them showing off some new songs they recently recorded in the studio. You can see those dates here.
