Art Brut's Eddie Argos Replies to Michael Jackson, Avril Lavigne, Bob Dylan, Kanye West with New Side Project

The self-referential geekery present in the lyrics of Eddie Argos is usually pretty hit or miss in his day job fronting Art Brut. When he's on, he can incite some pretty sweet chuckles, but when he misses the mark, he can come off as a bit of an annoying pest. Now, his merit as a lyricist will really be put to the test with his goofiest project yet, fronting the duo Everybody Was in the French Resistance... Now, with Dyan Valdes of L.A.'s the Blood Arm.

The duo take a unique approach to their goofiness, writing songs that reply to other famous pop songs. For example, the song "Hey It's Jimmy Mack," which is now streaming on their MySpace page, is a response to Martha and the Vandella's "Jimmy Mack." The song "G.I.R.L.F.R.E.N. (You Know I've Got A)" is a response to Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend," and "Billie's Genes"... okay, you get the idea. (To check out the lyrics of "G.I.R.L.F.R.E.N. (You Know I've Got A)," click here.)

According to Argos' blog, the debut album from Everybody Was in the French Resistance... Now is called Fixin' the Charts and will be out this January from Cooking Vinyl.
