Arctic Monkeys Prevail at Brits and PLUGs

Indie phenomenon Arctic Monkeys took home awards at both their native Brit Awards and the PLUG Independent Music Awards. The Sheffield-based band were honoured with Best British Group and Best Album at the Brits in London. Other winners on the night included the Killers, who were awarded Best International Group and Best International Album, Amy Winehouse for Best Female Solo Artist, Muse for Best British Live Act and the elderly Oasis for Outstanding Contribution to Music. Meanwhile at the PLUG Awards in New York City, the Monkeys grabbed Best New Artist, and Band of Horses led the way with Album of the Year and Best Americana Album. Questionable categorising arose with awards handed out to CSS for nabbing Best "Punk” Album, Thom Yorke winning Best "Electronic/Dance” Album and Girl Talk walking away with Best "DJ” Album. However, no one could argue the respect given to the late J Dilla, who earned Artist and Record Producer of the Year.
