Arcade Fire Reveal Details for 'The Suburbs' Deluxe Edition, Announce David Byrne Collaboration
Published May 10, 2011Last month, we found out that UK-based Arcade Fire fans were being treated to a deluxe reissue of the band's award-winning masterpiece The Suburbs. Featuring a couple extra tracks and a DVD featuring some intimate clips alongside the group's Spike Jonze-helmed short film Scenes from the Suburbs, we couldn't help wonder when we would get a chance to pick up a copy of the package on this side of the pond. Thankfully, that deluxe version is now officially coming our way.
Merge, the band's North American label, announced this morning (May 10) that it will be releasing the special edition CD/DVD package on August 2, marking one year minus a day from the original's release.
As previously mentioned, the two new cuts to be included are "Culture War" and "Speaking In Tongues." What we didn't know is that the latter features former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne on additional vocals. Considering how on the nose the song title is -- clearly referencing the Heads' 1983 album of the same name -- maybe we can expect a couple lines about burning down the house? An extended version of "Wasted Hours (A Life That We Can Live)" is also featured on the set.
In addition to the bonus DVD, an 80-page booklet of photos taken during the Scenes from the Suburbs shoot will juice up the visual element of the package.
