Apollo Ghosts to Release Split EP with ECCW Wrestler

Vancouver, BC's Apollo Ghosts released their sophomore album, Mount Benson, three months ago, earning rave reviews and a surprise nomination for the Polaris Music Prize. Now, with a cross-Canadian tour beginning later this month, the punk-ish jangle pop trio have already unveiled their latest release: the cassette-only Cedar Street EP.

The cassette is a split with, uh, amateur ECCW wrestler the Divine Prophet (aka Madonna Bangers frontman David "Thee King" Elmhurst). His half of the release is called Yarns EP, and according to Apollo Ghosts' MySpace, it is made up of "spoken word tales of the sea, wrestling, punk rock, family."

The Divine Prophet previously appeared in Apollo Ghosts' video for "Angel Acres" (see embedded video below). Vancouver, BC pop outfit Thee AHs also appear on the split.

The Cedar Street half of the tape features seven tracks: three new songs, a reprise of the previously released track "I Wont Support Your Love" (from the 2009 EP, Forgotten Triangle) and three covers, including redoes of tracks by the Monks, the Vaselines and Minutemen. The covers were recorded by frontman Adrian Teacher on a four-track, while the originals were laid down at Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville, WA. The EP was mixed by Jay Arner of Vancouver synth pop duo Fine Mist.

There's no exact release date, as the MySpace announcement says only "summer 2010," but it will come out via cassette label Scotch Tapes.

Cedar Street EP:

1. "My Own Father (Caught A Dirty Bank Robber)"
2. "Validation!"
3. "Allan Smithee"
4. "I Won't Support Your Love (Reprise)"
5. "Molly's Lips" (Vaselines)
6. "My Heart and the Real World" (Minutemen)
7. "Boys Are Boys and Girls Are Choice" (Monks)
