Animal Collective Share New Album's Inspiration Through Mixtape

If you've been wondering what tunes Animal Collective were jamming to while laying down their jaw-dropping Merriweather Post Pavilion, the group have shed some light on their influences via a fancy new mix CD.

Over in the UK, the group recently composed a mix of their musical inspirations for Rough Trade, which packaged up the exclusive eight-track AC comp with the pre-order of Merriweather Post Pavilion. On the mix, you'll find a pretty eclectic mix of stuff, ranging from Erykah Badu to Grouper to dub-steppers Kode 9. There's also an inclusion of a track by former Launchers guitarist Osamu Kitajima, with the mix boasting the 1971 song "Life" from the Japanese psych legend's stunning one-off album as Justin Heathcliff.

The bad news to all this is that the CD version of Merriweather Post Pavilion comes out today (January 12) in the UK, meaning the time for pre-orders is over and so too is your chance to snag the mix. However, we're guessing a conveniently downloadable zip of the comp will likely make its way onto a generous MP3-sharing blog soon.

Here are the tracks included on Rough Trade's Animal Collective mix:

1. Ralph Lundsten "Alpha Ralpha Boulevard"
2. Le Orme "I Miei Sogni"
3. Justin Heathcliff "Life"
4. Grouper "Stuck"
5. Sand "May Rain"
6. Vladislav Delay "Raamat"
7. Kode 9 vs LD "Bad"
8. Erykah Badu "Telephone"

Justin Heathcliff "You Know What I Mean"
