Animal Collective Join PETA to "Save the Seals"

Following in the footsteps of Morrissey and Hidden Cameras' Joel Gibb, as well as a lot of other animal-loving celebs, Animal Collective have joined forces with PETA and called for a permanent ban on Canada's annual seal hunt.

Just in time for the 2010 Olympics, the much-loved experimental popsters have posed for PETA's new "Save the Seals" ad series (see above) to "help spread the word about the tens of thousands of seals who are shot or bludgeoned to death for their fur each year."

During the photo shoot, Noah "Panda Bear" Lennox, Brian "Geologist" Weitz and David "Avey Tare" Portner also took some time to make a little video (see below), in which Weitz says: "I've learned... about the seal hunt through PETA's advertising campaigns... it's cruelt ... that's the bottom line, and there's plenty of other things you can wear and there's synthetic furs."

With the whole seal hunt - or "seal slaughter," as PETA refers to it - obviously being such a hot-button issue, we're just going to save the editorializing for another time. We just hope AC don't pull a total Morrissey and refuse to visit us here north of the border.
