Animal Collective Give Progress Report on New LP

It's been months since Panda Bear (aka Noah Lennox) delivered news that he and his Animal Collective cohorts were in the middle of writing their follow-up to 2009's beloved Merriweather Post Pavilion, but while things have seemingly been slow going, a new interview with band member Avey Tare hints that the crew have felt a recent burst of creativity.

Speaking with Madison.com [via Pitchfork], the experimental pop soundsmith explained that the group have been hard at work writing new tunes in Baltimore, the group's hometown. Tare himself recently moved back to Maryland after living in New York the last few years.

"We just finished another two weeks of writing sessions and put together five new songs," he explained, adding that the band start recording for their next set this January. "We're really excited about this record ... and it's been really fun jamming with those guys again."

While he didn't deliver details on song titles or what to expect sonically, the news bodes well for fans of the prolific outsider pop ensemble.
