Angelique Kidjo has revealed plans for an upcoming full-album cover of the Talking Heads' 1980 LP Remain in Light. It's due out June 8 via Kravenworks Records.
The record was produced by Jeff Bhasker and features contributions from guest musicians like Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig, Blood Orange, Tony Allen, Dominic James and Magatte Sow.
The original Talking Heads record was heavily influenced by West African music, and Kidjo intends to "pay back the homage."
"We all know that rock music came from the blues and thus from Africa," she said in a statement. "Now is the time to bring rock back to Africa, connect our minds, and bring all our sounds to a new level of sharing and understanding."
The first listen to Kidjo's take on Remain in Light has arrived with her version of album opener "Born Under Punches." Scroll past the LP's tracklisting to give it a listen.
