André 3000's Jimi Hendrix Biopic Gets TIFF Premiere Date; See the First Official Photo

André 3000's on-screen role as Jimi Hendrix in an upcoming biopic has long been a case of will-he-won't-he speculation, but the rumours were seemingly confirmed last year thanks to the leak of some on-set photos showing him dressed like Hendrix. Now, we've finally got a premiere date for the film, along with the first official photo of André as Jimi.

As has been previously reported, the John Ridley-directed flick is called All Is by My Side. It will arrive this September at the Toronto International Film Festival; the photo you can see above, which shows André 3000 playing Hendrix's left-handed guitar, comes courtesy of TIFF. It's currently unknown, though, when the the film will receive a general release.

The description from TIFF is rather barebones, with the synopsis simply reading, "OutKast's André Benjamin stars as Jimi Hendrix in this biopic of the rock legend."

An IMDB listing notes that the film will co-star Ashley Charles as Keith Richards, Imogen Poots (28 Weeks Later) as Linda Keith and Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger) as Jimi's girlfriend Kathy Etchingham.

The film apparently focuses on Hendrix's early years. As has been widely reportedly, the moviemakers were unable to secure the rights to any of the iconic guitarist's music, meaning that we will likely see him performing cover tunes.

TIFF runs from September 5 to 15.
