Though long-running romantic pop punks Alkaline Trio returned to their roots with last year's This Addiction, a newly announced follow-up plans to spice things up while still tipping its hat to their past. A press release for the Illinois outfit explains that the upcoming Damnesia reworks some of the band's classic cuts in brave new ways.
Though a full tracklisting has yet to be revealed, the record, which Epitaph/Heart & Skull will issue on July 12, "features a selection of beloved fan favourites selected from the group's extensive catalogue and presented in an intimate semi-unplugged format."
There aren't any hints as to which oldies will be tackled, but a cover of the Violent Femmes' "I Held Her In My Arms" and two new cuts ("Olde English 800" and "I Remember A Rooftop") will be included on the set.
The new record also coincides with Alkaline Trio's 15th anniversary. To celebrate, the group have announced a first leg of their anniversary tour. Unfortunately there are no Canadian dates at the moment, but pop punks countrywide should nonetheless keep their eyes peeled for upcoming shows. Check out the existing dates below.
"We're looking forward to our 15th anniversary tour this summer," singer/bassist Daniel Andriano said in a statement. "We're going to really try to put together a set that encompasses everything the band have done over the past 15 years and plan to play some songs that rarely find their way in to the set list. We will also play some songs in an unplugged style similar to what we've recently recorded on Damnesia. It's going to be a lot of fun."
