Alice Cooper Sets Sights on Developing His Own Broadway Musical, Announces Canadian Tour with Rob Zombie

Glammy hard rocker Alice Cooper has always had a penchant for flashy, over-the-top dramatic performance. Now, the Coop is is set to bring that flair to a new stage: a Broadway one.

Apparently, Cooper's idea is to take the concept around his 1975 album Welcome to My Nightmare and its corresponding tour, and turn it into a one massive one-venue stage show.

"Do it in a set show, do it all out rock, so you're in a concert," Cooper told Rolling Stone of the show. "You can do so much more if you're not travelling. You can set things up, put people in the audience that are in the show, so the guy sitting next to you might fly up in the air. I love the idea of an insane asylum, of being in an insane asylum, where you walk in, they lock the doors, and then they stand there, so you're in. The claustrophobia thing is good."

Cooper mentions that a backup, in case that idea doesn't pan out, would be to make the show about the story behind the original Alice Cooper Band. "We're actually talking about a lot of these things right now," Cooper said. "We probably have the strongest marriage in the whole [music] business. And it's very romantic, and that would give it heart. You have this total monster up there, who's totally in love with the girl, a monster with a heart of gold. I would like to do that show."

It all sounds pretty up in the air to us, so if you want a guaranteed spectacle, you might be better to check out Cooper on tour with Rob Zombie this spring and summer on their "Gruesome Twosome" tour. In the press release, Zombie claims the shows "will be without a doubt a Rock 'N' Roll Spooktacular for all the Cool Ghouls," while Cooper asserts, "We're like this generation's classic monsters. When we're not onstage frightening audiences, we'll be backstage trying to scare each other."

Zombie will likely pull much of his set list from his recent Hellbilly Deluxe 2 album, while Cooper will continue playing his Theatre of Death production that he performed in London late in 2009.
