When Alexisonfire's Jordan Hastings and Moneen's Kenny Bridges and Erik Hughes decided to start a side-project with some friends, they gave it the rather plain name of Hunter. Unsurprisingly, another band called Hunter objected, and the Canadian group were forced to change their name. Well, they have selected a new moniker, and this definitely isn't one for the whole family.
From now on, the band will be called Cunter. They posted an announcement on their new blog earlier this week, saying, "We are proud, scared, angry, pissed, happy, excited, depressed and overjoyed to announce that the band you have known as Hunter is now called Cunter."
The message explains, "After going through a piss-eating contest of name rights, we realized that the man was going to bring us down. We pleaded and begged for other parties to understand we are doing this for the love of punk and would never want to step on the beautiful toes of a cover band."
The band's venomous response to the name change doesn't end there. They've now opted to change the title of their new album to Some F'n A-hole Tried to Sue Us and Made Us Change Our Name. The CD was originally due to be called 20, making it the sequel (at least in title) to 10, which you can hear over at Bandcamp (and stream below).
Expect the new album to be out via Dine Alone just in time for a tour with A Wilhelm Scream in mid-June. See the dates below.
UPDATE: Following the initial publication of this story, the band have revised their initial statement and removed the blog post. They have also issued a very sincere apology over the name-change issue. Down below you will find both the apology and the cleared-up, more level-headed statement.
We apologize for any comments that were previously made.
We were being very unfair to people that had been very nice and more than fair with us.
We hope Cunter can be forgiven for any comments made in this issue.
we are proud, scared, angry, pissed, happy, excited, depressed and over joyed to announce that the band you have known as HUNTER is now called CUNTER.
Bush had X...We have CUNTER.
We are excited to push on and start a new identity with a name I would never want to tell my own mother.
The first step of Cunter will be to release "20".
This will be released in CD format with special limited packaging just in time for the tour with A Wilhelm Scream happening mid June.
We are sorry about having to change our name...but are not sorry what so ever for changing it to Cunter.
