Agesandages

Alright You Restless

Most people will make a decision about Agesandages within the first half-minute because the opening song on their debut album, Alright You Restless, is a harmony-laden, folky hippy-fest that is equal parts CSNY and mid-'70s Fleetwood Mac. "No Nostalgia" absolutely oozes joy and exuberance, accurately setting the scene for the next 35 minutes. Each and every one of the seven members of the band sings, sometimes simultaneously and usually into a single microphone. Apparently the majority of the album was recorded live and that has given it a campfire, sing-along quality. That warmth is the band's biggest asset and when they stray too far from that formula, the results are mixed. First of all, lead singer Tim Perry's voice doesn't stand up too well on its own, plus the less energetic songs drift along aimlessly. But there is definitely something here to build upon in the future.
