Adrian Belew Leaves Nine Inch Nails

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jun 7, 2013

Nine Inch Nails have been hogging the headlines this week, having premiered "Came Back Haunted" off of their newly announced Hesitation Marks LP and unveiled a fall tour schedule with Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Explosions in the Sky, but now the band have some bad news to report: guitarist Adrian Belew has left the live band.

Belew announced his decision last night (June 6) in a Facebook message that's since been deleted.

It reads, "hey folks, before this goes too far let me say this: I greatly respect trent and the music he makes. no one is at fault. we both agreed it just was not working. I'm sorry to disappoint anyone. that really hurts. but NIN will do an amazing show and I am back where I belong: creating FLUX."

According to reports, FLUX is an interactive listening program that Belew is programming.

A second statement was put up that summed things up more succinctly: "concerning me being part of the 2013 Nine Inch Nails band: it didn't work."

Trent Reznor has not issued a statement about the split.

Reznor had announced the band's return earlier this year, but the lineup has since undergone a few changes. Belew is the second person to exit the outfit of late, following Eric Avery, but the band also recently reacquired Robin Finck.

Belew had contributed to Nine Inch Nails albums as far back as 1994's The Downward Spiral and most recently on 2008's Ghost I-IV.

Hesitation Marks is due out September 3 on Universal Music Canada.
