Earlier this year, the world mourned as Riley Gale, the truly singular frontman of the crossover metal group Power Trip, passed away. Since then, his legacy has lived on in numerous ways — most recently of which is the purchase of a transitional home for LGBTQ+ youth in Dallas.
In the wake of Gale's death, Power Trip asked fans to donate to Dallas Hope Charities in lieu of flowers. The Texas organization, which only launched in 2018, was then able to fast track the purpose of a new building.
"We had no idea what that would result in, but the metal, thrasher community is like the most giving, generous, connected — it's crazy just the people that have come together," Dallas Hope Charities CEO Evie Scrivner told the Dallas Observer.
"I definitely think that this is what he would have wanted," Power Trip guitarist Blake Ibanez added. "I think he saw that as a big benefit to who he was, was being able to create things like that.... Not everybody can just be a part of something — whether it's a band or whatever — and be able to raise money on a dime for people that need it, those groups of people that need that type of help."
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held for the new building on December 1. Dallas Hope Charities is also naming a library after Riley, featuring many of the artist's own books.
