A$AP Rocky has been charged with two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm for allegedly shooting former A$AP Mob member A$AP Relli (a.k.a. Terell Ephron) in Los Angeles on November 6, 2021.

The rapper born Rakim Mayers was arrested at the Los Angeles International Airport in connection with the incident in April of this year and quickly released on a $500,000 USD bond. He had yet to be charged with any criminal activity until yesterday (August 15) — just days after Ephron self-identified as the alleged victim and revealed his plans to file a civil lawsuit against his former friend.

"Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offence that could have ended with tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood," Los Angeles County's district attorney George Gascón said in a statement announcing the charges. "My office conducted a thorough review of the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a special firearm allegation was warranted."

The incident took place near Vista Del Mar and Selma Avenue, where Ephron claimed he was approached by Mayers and two unidentified men on the street with a handgun. According to the alleged victim's attorneys, the rapper started shooting at him three to four times, "without provocation, warning, or any justification," once grazing his hand with a bullet. The DA's statement noted that Mayers allegedly fired the handgun twice.

Ephron, a talent manager and producer, has been subjected to "multiple death threats and irreparable harm to his career in the entertainment industry as a result of this incident," as per his legal representation.

While the case remains under investigation, Mayers is due in court for arraignment on August 17.
