Diverse and innovative indie label 5RC (5 Rue Christine) has decided to pack it in after a great nine-year run. The offshoot of influential underground Olympia-based label Kill Rock Stars, 5RC amassed an impressive roster including Deerhoof, Xiu Xiu, Wooden Wand, Hella and No-Neck Blues Band, among others. According to Maggie Veil, KRS’ vice president of A&R, some bands will move over to KRS, while others will explore their freedom. "We’re trying to figure out what we’re going to do. We’re calming down a little bit and not putting out so many records. We’d like to focus on our bands more,” said Veil, hinting at the overwhelming 40-plus records the label issued this year. This news follows the report that KRS founder Slim Moon is leaving Olympia for the New York offices of Nonesuch Records, where he’ll work in A&R.
