22 Jacks

Going North

BY Stuart GreenPublished Oct 1, 1999

Joining the likes of Social Distortion and Rocket From the Crypt as bands that use the music of the ’50s as a major inspiration, 22 Jacks have assembled what is easily their best album to date. Maybe it's because they're finally willing to admit what they are — a retro rock band, as opposed to a punk band — that has given the freedom to write stronger songs. The inclusion of horns and piano on "Too Much Time," simply serves to highlight the fact that they've been living a musical lie for two albums. They've come out of the closet and they're better because of it.
