18th Dye Reunite For New Album, North American Tour

After nearly a decade of inactivity, 18th Dye are firing up their engines, dropping not only a new album in North America but a tour as well. Standing as one of the most under-appreciated Matador bands ever, the recently reformed Danish trio came out of hiding yesterday (November 11) and released the brand-new long-player Amorine Queen, the band’s first proper album since 1995’s Steve Albini-produced Tribute to a Bus. And if that wasn’t enough, 18th Dye then suddenly threw a tour announcement at us, reporting that they will play both Montreal and Toronto, as well as several cities in the U.S.

For those of you with blurred '90s memories, 18th Dye emerged near the start of the decade, signing to Matador and releasing a trio of studio full-lengths: Done (1992), Crayon (1993) and Tribute to a Bus (1995). They soon toured with indie heavyweights Stereolab and Yo la Tengo, and found some minor success on the indie charts in the UK and in North America. Most impressively though, the band did three sessions with the late, great John Peel, who was reportedly a big admirer of the group’s squalling soft/loud rock dynamics (think Shellac fronted by three sensitive Danes). Apparently, 18th Dye were the only Danish band to ever record with the famed BBC DJ.

After going on hiatus in the late ’90s, the band re-emerged in more recent years for several live appearances across Europe and, little did we know, quietly began work on Amorine Queen, which is now available through Crunchy Frog.

For a taste of the reformed 18th Dye, here is their new album’s tracklisting, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates:
