Definitive multi-hyphenate Marisol Nichols is getting her own TV show based on her real life's work as an undercover agent for the FBI. As wild as it may sound, Sony Pictures has signed the Riverdale actress to produce a new series based on her true story, which has been her secret reality for six years.
The 46-year-old's second job first came to light through a Marie Claire profile published in April. While Nichols is not currently paid for the work she does busting child sex trafficking rings, she is about to, now that her own series is on its way.
As Nichols detailed in her interview with MC, her role in the stings involved her acting skills in an unsuspected way — she would often "play" the role of a parent or pimp interested in setting up sex with child victims in order to catch the predator on the other end of the line.
According to her recent interview, Nichols's interest in crime-fighting stems from her own experience as a survivor of sexual and physical assault as a child. "It changed the entire trajectory of my life in a day," she said.
Deadline shared news of Nichols's deal with Sony earlier this week, though few other details on the forthcoming series — including its release date, episode count or cast members — have not been announced.
Meanwhile, Nichols has said farewell to her role as Hermione Lodge — a.k.a. Veronica's mom — in the forthcoming fifth season of Riverdale. Her and Skeet Ulrich both announced their departure from the series back in February.
