UK Man Arrested for Driving at 88 mph in His Delorean

A man in the UK was recently caught by cops driving 88 mph in his Delorean. It's a move straight out of 1985 classic Back to the Future, but rather than travelling back in time, 55-year-old Nigel Mills simply wound up with a present day speeding ticket.

In the Robert Zemeckis flick, Marty McFly (played by Michael J. Fox) and Dr. Emmett Brown (played by Christopher Lloyd) fashion a time machine from a Delorean — concocting a perfect storm of plutonium and speed to send McFly back in time rekindle his parents' romance.

Or, as Doc Brown puts it: "If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you're gonna see some serious shit."

Mills says he wasn't actually attempting to return to the past, despite reaching up a peak speed of 89 mph on the A12 in Essex county, insisting that he was just taking the instantly recognizable car out for a "run around."

"I wasn't trying to time travel," he told The Guardian. "It was at 11am on Sunday and the road was completely clear."

Mills bought the novelty car for £22,000. Luckily, he won't be losing any more money on the cost of a speeding fine — the case was thrown out of Chelmsford, UK courts when the two officers that caught him speeding failed to appear.
