Appearing for Saturday Night Live's quarantine edition, Tom Hanks emerged last night (April 11) seemingly fully recovered from his and his wife Rita Wilson's recent bout with coronavirus.
The actor played the role of host for the first work-from-home broadcast of SNL on Saturday, alongside Coldplay frontman Chris Martin who acted as musical guest.
"It is good to be here, though it is also very weird to be here hosting Saturday Night Live at home," Hanks said in his opening remarks. "It is a strange time to try and be funny, but trying to be funny is SNL's whole thing."
If you can look past the awkwardness of the lack of studio audience laughter, Hanks's jokes are passably comedic — but there is definitely an air of weirdness to watching his jokes land silently. Regardless, Hanks does seem happy to be home after a month-long recovery period in Australia.
NBC had previously postponed its upcoming episodes of SNL in an effort to help ease the spread of COVID-19. Last week, the network announced "#SNLAtHome" for its April 11 broadcast.
