It's been 35 years since The Princess Bride first galloped onto the big screen, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) is giving fans a whole new way to experience its sweeping romance and spiky comedy with The Princess Bride in Concert, coming this March to Toronto's Roy Thomson Hall.
On Friday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. and again on Saturday, March 5 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., the TSO will perform Mark Knopfler's iconic score live alongside a screening of the beloved film, breathing new life into its epic tale of fencing, fighting, revenge and true love.
Released in 1987, Rob Reiner's twisty tale of metafiction — while well-received — didn't make much of a splash at first. But in the decades since, its influence and reputation have only grown, with fans and critics alike recognizing the film's deft balance of acidic wit, panoramic fantasy and genuine romance. In 2016, The Princess Bride was inducted into the National Film Registry, correctly deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant."
