'The Simpsons' to Air Its First Hour-Long Episode

Depending on how you feel about its recent seasons, you were either met with fear or joy when Harry Shearer threatened to leave The Simpsons. Of course, that was a false alarm and the show will likely be around for a while yet. As they try to eke out new ideas, they're also making series firsts. Earlier this year it was a live segment, and next season they'll have their first hour-long episode.

Set to air in January, the elongated Simpsons episode is called "The Great Phatsby." It sort of sounds like multiple episodes smashed together, as it follows plot lines involving Mr. Burns, Homer, Bart, Lisa, Smithers, Marge and guest stars Keegan-Michael Key and Taraji P. Henson.

In a press release, executive producer Al Jean said, "I just pray it won't be the last thing people see before a Trump inauguration."

Prior to "The Great Phatsby," The Simpsons will kick off its 28th season with a regular-sized episode on September 25.
