Thanks to the success of The LEGO Movie, we're now looking at a potential lifetime of LEGO movies. This year saw the release of The LEGO Batman Movie and a trailer for The LEGO Ninjago Movie. In addition to those, of course, there's still a sequel to the original film on its way. Now, new details for the project have emerged.
/Film points to a recent interview that LEGO Movie animation supervisor and LEGO Batman director Chris McKay completed with the "Shanlian on Batman" podcast. In the piece, McKay revealed that the forthcoming sequel will be a musical set in space.
"LEGO 2 is going to be this big musical and space action movie," he said. "They need a lot of the writing, a lot of development, not only with script development, but development with songwriters. So it was very ambitious to get that movie out."
Of course, both The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie have had plenty of musical elements, so it only makes sense that the sequel would go all-in on the songs.
Expect The LEGO Movie 2 to arrive in 2019.
