'Stranger Things' Creators Are Pissed After New Monopoly Game Reveals Major Season 4 Spoilers

The official tie-in board game allegedly includes cards that feature significant plot points

People generally dislike spoilers. But apparently no one dislikes spoilers quite as much as the Duffer Brothers, who reportedly suffered a "total meltdown" (in Hollywood-insider gossip speak) after some pretty significant plot points from the upcoming fourth season of Stranger Things were spoiled by a tie-in Monopoly game.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the game — which is an official, Netflix-approved promotional tie-in to the blockbuster series — allegedly features game-play cards that contain major spoilers for the tightly-wrapped new season, the specifics of which won't be divulged here.

The Duffer Brothers, who created Stranger Things back in 2015, were reportedly not consulted about the game and were unaware that it would be arriving before the fourth season, therefore spoiling some hush-hush plot points and character developments.

For the intrepid Redditors out there who feel like potentially spoiling the show for themselves, a Reddit thread has been created that's devoted to the leak. One user claims that they bought the game in question at "a nationally recognized retailer and purchased fair and square by a consumer. Nobody stole it; nobody leaked a sample." That can't necessarily be confirmed, but you can check it out for yourself if you so please.

Stranger Things Monopoly games tied to previous seasons are currently available for purchase, but a handful of the leaky Season 4 versions are allegedly available on eBay.

For those more inclined to wait for the show to reveal itself on its own terms, part one of the new season of Stranger Things arrives May 27, while part two is dropping July 1.
