Following the cancellation of the Juno Awards, another major Canadian event has been stopped by coronavirus, as this year's Canadian Screen Awards have been cancelled.
In a statement, the Canadian Academy announced the cancellation of all Canadian Screen Week festivities in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. That includes the Canadian Screen Awards gala on March 29. According to the Academy, "We feel this is the only responsible decision at this time."
The announcement notes, "We are committed to the celebration of our Canadian Screen Award nominees and Special Award honourees and will share an update in the coming weeks." It remains to be seen what exactly that means.
The Canadian Academy tweeted that the voting for the Cogeco Fund Audience Choice Award will remain open and a winner will still be announced.
