A television series based on the high-action, suspense thriller film franchise Taken has been given the green light.

The small screen adaptation will be co-produced by EuropaCorp and Universal, and has been given a straight-to-series order from NBC, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It will serve as a prequel to the film trilogy, which starred Liam Neeson as a retired CIA agent, Bryan Mills. The show will give viewers a glimpse into Mills' early career, following the character as he develops his expert spy skills.

In addition to cementing a deal for Taken, EuropaCorp has also secured pilot deals for a post-apocalyptic drama titled These Final Hours on Fox and a corporate thriller called Janus on ABC.
