Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt — a.k.a. Silvio Dante in The Sopranos — was brought into the test audience for David Chase's prequel film, The Many Saints of Newark.
In a recent interview with SiriusXM, the musician/actor revealed that he and his wife (who also starred in The Sopranos) were invited to early screenings of Chase's prequel.
"I saw several of the early cuts," Van Zandt said. "He's been tinkering now with it for a couple of years. So it may be a whole different movie by the time I see it again. He wanted me and Maureen to see it and give him some input. Silvio is in it, just 30 years earlier."
Van Zandt's character will appear in the forthcoming feature, but with John Magaro stepping into the role of the younger Sil.
The Many Saints of Newark will also star Michael Gandolfini — son of the late James Gandolfini — stepping in to play a younger version of his father's iconic role. The mafia flick will also star Alessandro Nivola, Leslie Odom Jr., Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, Billy Magnussen, Michela De Rossi, Ray Liotta and Vera Farmiga.
The film was written by Chase alongside Lawrence Konner, also from The Sopranos. The Many Saints of Newark was directed by Alan Taylor.
The movie is due to arrive in theatres and on HBO Max on October 1.
