Now that Seattle protestors have really settled into the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone — otherwise known as CHAZ — it appears that film screenings have become a regular part of the movement's nightly programming.
According to a number of posts on Twitter, the CHAZ collective have already watched Ava DuVernay's 2016 Netflix documentary 13th, as well as Jennie Livingston's 1990 New York drag doc, Paris Is Burning.
Presumably, the protestors are making their way through films about Black lives and by Black filmmakers as a form of education in the wake of ongoing insurgence against anti-black racism and police brutality in the States.
To aid in the ongoing education on anti-black racism, a number of platforms including Cineplex and Criterion Channel have recently made Black stories more accessible by lifting streaming fees on certain films.
In addition to nightly film screenings, videos on social media also show impromptu concerts and dance parties have been taking place inside CHAZ.
So far, there's no word on any other films CHAZ plans to screen during the protest.
