We recently crowned Donald Glover's Atlanta our favourite new TV show of 2016, but viewers who are ready for a second season of the breakout comedy series will be waiting a while yet.

According to DeadlineFX revealed to the Television Critics Association that the show will not air this year. A second season has been set for 2018.

Of course, Glover has enough on his plate these next few years to warrant the delay. Most notably, he'll play the role of Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Star Wars Han Solo origin film, which will shoot this year for a release in 2018. Glover described his involvement as "a big deal" to press at the Golden Globes, recalling that it was "literally the first toy I ever got."

"When you have something that's kind of iconic where people pay attention to it, it's hard because you want to live up to the expectation, but all you can do is live up to your own, and Star Wars is really high," he said. "I really just want to have fun. The directors [Christopher Miller and Phil Lord], they're amazing. I love [Alden Ehrenreich] who is playing Han. It's going to be a good time. It's going to be fun. I'm getting ready to just have fun with those guys."

Atlanta recently captured the award for Best Television Series (Musical or Comedy) at the 2017 Golden Globes, where Glover himself also won for Best Actor in a Television Comedy Series.
