The New Scooby-Doo Movie to Skip Theatres and Go Straight to Video on Demand

'SCOOB!' will be out at home next month

The forthcoming animated Scooby-Doo film SCOOB! is the latest project that will surpass a traditional theatrical release and instead arrive as a home rental. The move makes plenty of sense considering the coronavirus pandemic has rendered theatres closed, and parents are stuck at home trying to find something for their kids to do.

The Tony Cervone-directed film had been scheduled to open on May 15. Now, on that same date it will instead arrive as a digital rental with the option to purchase in full across VOD platforms.

"While we're all eager to be able to once again show our films in theatres, we're navigating new, unprecedented times which call for creative thinking and adaptability in how we distribute our content," Ann Sarnoff, Warner Bros. chief executive, said in a statement.

SCOOB! features a voice cast including Will Forte, Gina Rodriguez, Zac Efron and Amanda Seyfried, and follows how Scooby and Shaggy first met.
