After the questionable success of "At Home" episodes of Saturday Night Live during the early days of the coronavirus outbreak, Lorne Michaels and NBC have started plotting the show's return to its Manhattan studio for Season 46.
According to Variety, the real-life fall premiere of SNL may hinge on a new "controlled" production strategy — possibly following in the footsteps of Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show, which Michaels also works on. Such a format could see masked cameramen, physically distanced performers and more video calls in lieu of in-person guest appearances.
So far, NBC has yet to comment on the matter, but as Variety points out, plans for SNL's fall season aren't usually revealed until the end of summer. By then, America will be ripe for content about the unusually wild 2020 presidential election. Upon its return, we can hope to expect a bunch of Kanye West candidacy-related sketches, or maybe even an appearance by the presidential hopeful himself.
