Big emerged as a huge career highlight for Tom Hanks, but as we're now learning, it was actually Robert De Niro who was originally cast to lead the 1988 classic.

The pretty wild reveal comes via Big co-star Elizabeth Perkins, who opened up about the film in an interview with Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, NME reports.

"Robert De Niro was actually cast in the role of Josh in the movie Big," Perkins said. "It fell apart because he had a scheduling conflict, and then they went to Tom Hanks. It's like a totally different movie in my brain with Robert De Niro."

And yes, we have to agree with that — Big indeed is an entirely different movie with De Niro in our brain.

Perkins went on to explain that she originally auditioned with De Niro for her part in the film.

"He was more moody. It was more of a — a little more of a horror movie," she explained. "Robert De Niro wandering around the streets of New York. What Tom Hanks brought to it was so much lighter."

So while Hanks no doubt did a stellar job in the film, we can't help but now wonder what a horror movie version of Big would have actually been like. Perhaps we'll just have to wait until the reboot.
