Canadian actor Ryan Grantham — known for his roles in Riverdale, Supernatural and Diary of a Wimpy Kid — has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his mother.

As per CBC's reporting, BC Supreme Court Justice Kathleen Ker called the case "tragic and heartbreaking," and attested to the "life-shattering" effects of the crime on Grantham's sister, who provided a victim impact statement for the court. Grantham won't be eligible for parole for 14 years.

The 24-year-old pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in March this year after shooting his mother Barbara Waite in the back of the head as she played piano in their Squamish, BC, home two years prior.

As previously reported, the B.C. Supreme Court heard how Grantham had rehearsed the killing, filmed his confession on a GoPro camera, and later, loaded his car with three guns, ammunition, 12 Molotov cocktails, camping supplies and started driving east with a plan to kill Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Grantham never made it out of the province, changing his plans to commit a mass shooting at Simon Fraser University or on the Lions Gate Bridge before turning himself in to Vancouver Police back in 2020.

Justice Ker noted that she took Grantham's mental health into consideration prior to his sentencing.
