Netflix Will No Longer Let You Fake Your Location with a Proxy

Bad news for Canadian streamers who use their tech savvy to pretend they're in a different country: Netflix has figured out what you're doing, and they're going to put an end to it.

In a new blog post [via Motherboard], Netflix VP of content delivery architecture David Fullager said, that they were working on ways to prevent users from changing their streaming location with proxies and unblockers. In other words, if you want to watch American Netflix, you'll soon have to travel to America.

Fullager added that they hope to eventually offer the same films and television shows to all regions, but that they're currently tied to the "historic practice of licensing content by geographic territories."

"We look forward to offering all of our content everywhere and to consumers being able to enjoy all of Netflix without using a proxy," he added. "That's the goal we will keep pushing towards."

In the meantime, we'll keep you posted on what's available on Netflix Canada each month. Read January's listings here.
