Netflix's all-consuming content machine has made its way to the world of Roald Dahl, the beloved children's author who created a series of memorable characters in his lifetime. Though most of Dahl's work has been adapted in one way or another, Netflix has a special plan to turn his stories into a new children's series.
The company has teamed up with the Roald Dahl Story Company to animate characters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG, Matilda, The Twits and many others.
That said, it won't be a standard adaptation. Instead, the books will be adapted into a "story universe" for a limited event series. In other words, there will be threads that connect the stories throughout the series.
"Our mission, which is purposefully lofty, is for as many children as possible around the world to experience the unique magic and positive message of Roald Dahl's stories," Roald Dahl's widow, Felicity Dahl, said in a statement. "This partnership with Netflix marks a significant move toward making that possible and is an incredibly exciting new chapter for the Roald Dahl Story Company. Roald would, I know, be thrilled."
Production will begin on the series in 2019. Watch a teaser video from Netflix below.
