It's an incredibly dark day in the United States today, as the Supreme Court has officially overturned Roe v. Wade, allowing states to place a total ban on all abortions and greatly endangering a woman's right to medical privacy and necessary life-saving healthcare.

Amidst this very scary scenario, media companies Disney, Netflix, Paramount, Comcast, Sony, Meta and more have confirmed via internal memos to staff that they will cover travel costs for employees seeking abortions following the Supreme Court's overturning.

As reported by Variety, Disney addressed the ruling today in a letter to employees stating that the corporation recognizes the "impact" of the Supreme Court's decision and "remain[s] committed to providing comprehensive access to quality and affordable care" for all Disney employees and their families. That includes family planning and reproductive care, "no matter where they live." Disney employees who are unable to access a medical service — including abortion — are guaranteed a travel benefit that allows for "affordable coverage for receiving similar levels of care in another location."

A spokesperson for Netflix told Variety that the streaming giant has a similar promise in place:

Netflix offers a travel reimbursement coverage for full-time US employees and their dependents who need to travel for cancer treatment, transplants, gender-affirming care, or abortion – through our US health plans. This is a $10,000 lifetime allowance per employee and/or their dependents per service.

Comcast also provides a travel benefit that covers Comcast and NBCUniversal employees seeking medical services and procedures that aren't available near their homes.

It should be noted that the majority of these companies have a history of donating large sums of money to anti-abortion, right wing political candidates.

If you live in the United States or are seeking to help from elsewhere, now is not the time to donate to the Democratic party. Instead, try to find trustworthy, community-based abortion and reproductive healthcare providers who could use your support.
