Michael Che Gets His Own Spinoff Sketch Show

As a head writer and "Weekend Update" co-host, Saturday Night Live comedian Michael Che certainly has plenty on his plate. That said, he's just found even more work via a new, six-episode sketch comedy show.

Currently called Untitled Michael Che Project, the six-episode series will offer sketches on a specific topic per episode. An official synopsis suggests the episodes will demonstrate what it feels like to experience the topic at hand from a Black vantage point.

The show is being prepped for HBO Max, and the idea is that it will be less about coming across as "right" about any topic but instead focusing on being honest, even at the risk of being controversial.

Lorne Michaels will executive produce the show alongside Che.

"I'm really excited to be working on this show with HBO Max," said Che in a statement. "It's a project I've been thinking about for a while and we have a lot of sketches we want to shoot so please wear your masks so that we can go into production."
