Matt Damon and George Clooney Speak Out Against Harvey Weinstein on 'Good Morning America'

In the wake of the multitude of sexual harassment and assault allegations against Harvey Weinstein, plenty of Hollywood stars have spoken out about their own experiences and their vague awareness of what was actually going on. Yesterday (October 23), A-listers Matt Damon and George Clooney sat down together for an interview on ABC's Good Morning America to discuss the scandal.

In the interview, Damon admitted that he could tell Weinstein was a bully within five minutes of meeting him, but nevertheless signed a three-picture deal with the guy.

As for the perception that "everybody knew" about his behaviour in Hollywood, Damon said, "Yeah, I knew he was an asshole. He was proud of that, that's how he carried himself."

He continued, "I knew he was a womanizer. I wouldn't want to be married to the guy, but it's not my business, really. But this level of sexual predation is not something I ever thought was going on. Absolutely not."

Damon went on to admit that he knew about Gwyneth Paltrow's story from Ben Affleck (who dated Paltrow after Brad Pitt), but said: "I was working with Gwyneth with Harvey on [The Talented Mr.] Ripley. I never talked to Gwyn about it, Ben told me. But I knew that they had come to whatever agreement or understanding. She had handled it."

Despite blatantly admitting to knowing about the harassment, Damon ended by saying: "She was the first lady of Miramax, and he treated her incredibly respectfully. Always."

Clooney then jumped in, also admitting to knowing about Weinstein's reputation.

"Harvey would talk to me about women that he had had affairs with," he said. "I didn't quite believe him, quite honestly, because to believe him would be to believe kind of the worst of some actresses who were friends of mine. And I didn't really think they would have affairs with Harvey — and clearly they didn't."

He went on to label Weinstein a "predator" and "assaulter," and called the actions and subsequent silencing of women "beyond infuriating."

Clooney previously went on record about Weinstein earlier this month, calling his behaviour "indefensible."

Damon, meanwhile, came under fire for allegedly having a hand in killing a 2004 story for The Wrap, which would have exposed similar accusations against Weinstein. He also joined the "father of daughters" club in an awkward attempt to denounce the disgraced movie mogul.
