Keanu Reeves Responds to Being Dubbed "Canadian Royalty," Says He's "Just a Guy"

Humble king

It is not within our rights as Canadians to have the cultural power to appoint honorary royals in lieu of embarrassing monarchy? Who better than a wholesome one almost named Chuck Spadina, already dubbed the internet's boyfriend? However, Keanu Reeves respectfully disagrees with the designation, brushing off the royal treatment with a polite "no thank you." So goddamn Canadian.

As the March 24 premiere of John Wick: Chapter 4 draws nearer, it's been a big week for Reeves. Even after a wildly popular Reddit AMA revealed that he's been listening to Alvvays, the actor remains unbearably humble: in a new interview with ET Canada, host Keshia Chanté doled out stately compliments that Reeves blushingly refused to accept.

"Okay, first of all, you are Canadian royalty," Chanté began in their chat, resulting in confusion and facial redness from the actor, who insisted, "No, I'm not."

Chanté assured him, "You are, I promise you, you are." Reeves hesitantly accepted her words (kind of), remarking, "That's kind."

Of course, the host then had to ask him about how he stays so humble while being one of the biggest movie stars on the planet. "I'm just a guy," Reeves said. "I'm just trying to do the best I can, you know? Hopefully people like what I do."

Chanté proceeded to circle back to the thesis, ending the interview by thanking the actor and saying, "Appreciate your time, Canadian royal."

"I'm not a Canadian royal," an ever-bashful Reeves countered.

Keep your head up, king — your crown is falling.
