Kate Bush (one of the greatest artists of the last five decades) has seen a sudden resurgence in popularity lately thanks to "Running Up That Hill" (one of the greatest songs of the last five decades) playing a major role in the new season of Stranger Things.

The song is still currently hanging out at No. 1 of the iTunes Top 100 Chart, and in a new interview with Variety, Stranger Things music supervisor Nora Felder explains how they nabbed the song, saying that Bush herself is a big fan of the show. Look out for mild spoilers below.

As Felder explains it, Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers tasked her with finding a song that "resonated with the intense, wide-ranging emotional experiences Max was undergoing" — i.e. the death of her half-brother Billy — and Felder eventually landed on "Running Up That Hill."

"It immediately struck me with its deep chords of the possible connection to Max's emotional struggles and took on more significance as Bush's song marinated in my conscious awareness," Felder told Variety

The Duffers agreed, and Felder and her team sent Bush "elaborate scene descriptions that provided as much context as possible so that Kate and her camp would have a full understanding of the uses."

Bush is reportedly incredibly selective about where and how her music is used (which explains why it appears in TV and film so rarely), but is apparently also a big fan of Stranger Things. Bush eventually granted the show permission to use the song, which is how "Running Up That Hill" ended up on the show and back at the top of the charts 37 years after its release.
