Jordan Peele wowed audiences (and Exclaim! staff) with his directorial debut Get Out last year, and despite defying traditional genre boundaries, the film received a handful of Oscar nominations this morning.
After nabbing noms in major categories like Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor in a Leading Role, the director took to Twitter to share his reaction to the news.
Peele started by sharing a gif of Daniel Kaluuya's tear-streaked character Chris Washington, then made further reference to his film by equating his emotional state as "the opposite of the Sunken Place."
Things only got more emotional from there, with Peele revealing that he'd spoken to Get Out star Kaluuya — and totally couldn't hide the fact that the conversation made him ugly cry.
Peele closed off his tweet streak by thanking everyone who went to see Get Out and had told others to do the same.
Peele, Kaluuya and fans of the film will have to wait until March 4 to find out if Get Out gets any golden statues.

I just spoke to Daniel. You know when you're on the phone trying to disguise the sound of an ugly cry? I failed at that.

Right now I'm just thinking about everyone who bought a ticket and told someone else to. You did this. Thank you. ✊🏾
