"It really felt like this is a really clear indication that we're not the cool club anymore"

Will Smith has already apologized for slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars, but the whole event isn't sitting right with Jim Carrey, who said he was "sickened" by the standing ovation Smith was given later in the night when he won the Best Actor trophy.

"Hollywood is just spineless, en masse," the actor said in a CBS interview with Gayle King. "It really felt like this is a really clear indication that we're not the cool club anymore."

Carrey said that Smith should have been arrested and escorted out, and that, if he were Rock, he would have sued Smith. Carrey said, "If you want to yell from the audience and disapprove, or say something on Twitter, or whatever — you do not have the right to walk up on stage and smack somebody in the face because they said words." He noted that video of the slap will continue to be ubiquitous "forever."

He added that he "doesn't have anything against Will Smith," who has "done great things," but the incident "cast a pall over everybody's shining moment."
