Jason Isaacs Doubts He'll Ever Work on Anything as "Original" as 'The OA' Again
Published Nov 27, 2020After confirming the fate of Brit Marling's The OA earlier this year, English actor Jason Isaacs has said he doubts he'll ever work on a show as "original" as the short-lived cult favourite.
Speaking with NME, Isaacs admitted there was something "special" about the show, even though Netflix saw it fit to cancel after only two seasons.
"I don't know if I'll be in anything as original again," he said. "Something happened on that show. I felt like I'd never told a story like this before. It's a magnificent piece of art and storytelling."
He added: "There's no point me second-guessing how and why they did it. They've cancelled lots of things that were very popular. We don't deserve special treatment."
Despite massive outcry from fans, including "five moments" protests and even a hunger strike, the series was definitively cancelled back in 2019. Rumours of a possible movie conclusion surfaced around the time of the series' cancellation, but that idea was ultimately shelved.
The series aired its first season back in 2016. The OA was created by Marling and Zal Batmanglij.
Isaacs is set to join another Netflix series, Sex Education, when it returns for Season 3 in 2021.
