After releasing her excellent Dirty Computer album earlier this year, Janelle Monáe has lined up another film project. She's joined the cast of The Glorias: A Life on the Road.

The film tells the story of Gloria Steinem, the famed feminist and activist, throughout different periods in her life.

It's being directed by Julie Taymor and is based on Steinem's own memoir, My Life on the Road. Alicia Vikander, Julianne Moore and Lulu Wilson were previously cast to portray Steinem at different ages.

Monáe garnered acclaim for her acting work in last year's Moonlight and Hidden Figures.

Her upcoming film projects include Welcome to Marwen, the animated UglyDolls film, Disney's live-action Lady and the Tramp reboot and the Harriet Tubman biopic Harriet.
