The first trailer has arrived for Beau Is Afraid, director Ari Aster's new film for A24 which he previously called a "nightmare comedy."

Starring Joaquin PhoenixBeau Is Afraid is said to follow "a paranoid man ... on an epic odyssey to get home to his mother." Upon viewing the trailer, it appears that the journey of Phoenix's character in the "bold and ingeniously depraved" feature takes place over several lifetimes.

Beau Is Afraid, previously titled Disappointment Blvd., marks Aster's third film with A24, following 2018's Hereditary and 2019's Midsommar. It was previously reported that the film would be shot in Montreal.

Alongside Phoenix, cast members confirmed to appear in the film include Nathan Lane, Patti LuPone, Amy Ryan, Kylie Rogers, Parker Posey, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Hayley Squires, Michael Gandolfini, Zoe Lister-Jones and Richard Kind.

Beau Is Afraid follows Phoenix's star turns in Mike Mills' C'mon C'mon and Todd Phillips' Joker, and he's already been confirmed for the latter's forthcoming sequel. In 2020, it was reported that Phoenix would play Napoleon in a new Ridley Scott film.
