Cineplex will begin screenings in six Alberta cinemas tomorrow (June 26) ahead of reopening locations across the country into July, and the theatre chain has now shared new health and safety protocols to get people "back to the big screen."
A list of changes found on Cineplex's website features detailed rundowns of new measures "to ensure our guests and team stay safe."
The chains enhanced cleaning schedule will see auditorium seats, handrails and children's booster seats wiped down with industrial-grade cleaning products between each showtime. Auditoriums at all locations will also "undergo a deep cleaning and sanitation" each evening. Hand sanitizer will be "readily available" in the theatre lobby and games area.
Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, face coverings and masks, and are "instructed to stay home if they have symptoms of COVID-19 or the flu. Furthermore, they will "be sent home immediately if they begin to show symptoms during their shift."
While masks are optional for customers, Cineplex recommends that they wear a mask in following Canada's public health guidelines. Theatres will have a supply of masks, at no extra charge, that will be available for guests who wish to wear one.
Plexiglass shields are installed at all employee-facing points of sale, while touchpoints will be wiped down every 30 minutes or less.
When it comes to distancing measures, reserved, staggered seating is in effect in every reduced capacity auditorium. The theatre asks you arrive no more than 15 minutes before your showtime in order to properly distance in the lobby.
